EV-DO Rev. B technology advantages and prospects of the system
In February, ZTE announced its CDMA2000 commercial system opened its first EV-DO Rev. B, VoIP phone, EV-DO Revision B of this breakthrough immediately aroused widespread concern in the communications industry.
China Telecom commercial CDMA20001xEV-DO technology with WCDMA and TD-SCDMA 3G technology known as the three criteria. CDMA20001xEV-DO standard in the EV is the "Evolution" the abbreviation of evolution, DO is DataOptimized, that EV-DO technology is a CDMA2000 1x network to provide data services in an effective increase in the means of its evolution line in Figure 1 shown.


This article will first introduce EV-DO Rev. B technology advantage, and then from the user experience, operators of the upgrade costs, market development potential, and compared with the 4G perspective of the EV-DO Rev. B, prospects, but also analyzes the deployment of version B challenge.

EV-DO Rev. B technology advantages

CDMA20001xEV-DO technology in Qualcomm's HDR (HighDataRate) technology based on the evolved, also known as high-speed packet data HRPD (High Rate Packet Data) technology. CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Rev. B technology is a single-carrier EV-DO Revision A technology for multi-carrier expansion, which is called multi-carrier EV-DO. May 2006, 3GPP2 release of EV-DO Rev. Currently worldwide there are official commercial EV-DO Release 0 and EV-DO Revision A standard. Most major carriers are used in EV-DO Revision A standard, China Telecom is also true.

In terms of user experience, operators of the investment cost or market maturity considerations, deployment, version B seems to step in the selection. Version B has good backward compatibility. In addition, EV-DO Revision B to better support VoIP and multimedia applications, can RAN (RadioAccessNetwork, Radio Access Network) to provide the same QoS guarantee, while other air interface technologies (such as LTE and WiMAX) can not provide this guarantee, so to achieve the same function will start from scratch, and take a long time to achieve the same commercial and version B level. Therefore, at this stage deployment upgrade version B is the right strategic choice.

Technically slightly better version of B has also been a lot of manufacturers of all ages. Other aspects of device manufacturers, such as Shanghai Bell has said, EV-DO Revision B to provide data rates and throughput fully meet the needs of users, so operators can truly mature until after LTE/4G system to choose the right time upgrade their networks. Deployment of EV-DO Rev. B challenge
